HATAY – An investigation has been opened against 105 people, who attended the support action for Nuriye Gülmen and Semih Özakça in Hatay.
Families of Ahmet Atakan and Ali İsmail Korkmaz, who lost their lives during Gezi protests, launched a-day hunger strike on May 14, 2017 in order to support Nuriye Gülmen and Semih Özakça, who have been dismissed by KHK decree. Public Prosecutor of Hatay has opened an investigation against 105 people, who joined the protest. The people were summoned to testify within the scope of the investigation and they were asked, “Why did you join that protest?”, “Didn’t you know the protest was illegal?”, “If you knew, why did you join?”, “Who organized the protest?” and “Did you join the protest by taking direction from who?”
‘We seek justice for years’
Another investigation was opened against Emsal Atakan, mother of Ahmet Atakan and Emel Korkmaz, mother of Ali İsmail Korkmaz on charges of “Opposing Law No. 2911 Law on Meetings and Demonstrations” and “Opposing Law No. 2935 of the State of Emergency”. Emsal Atakan states that they have sought justice for years; however, investigations have been opened against them.
‘We want to support their demand for justice’
Emphasizing that Gezi families have sought justice not only for them but also for all killed young people, Emsal says, “We organized a support protest because there is no justice in this country. The academics were fired, the teachers were dismissed. For what? For demanding justice. And we organized the support protest in order to support demand for justice. We understand that the injustice becomes justice in this country.”
