Female prisoners battered in Tarsus

MERSİN –Female prisoners, who were sent to Tarsus Penitentiary Institution Campus Prison, which was built in Women’s Prison in Tarsus, are reportedly to be battered by soldiers and prison officers during the referring.

Yesterday, female prisoners in Tarsus C Type Closed Prison in Mersin were sent to Tarsus Penitentiary Institution Campus Prison which was built in Women’s Prison in Tarsus. According to reports received, the female prisoners were battered by soldiers and prison officers during the referring. Akdeniz Co-mayor Yüksel Mutlu, one of the prisoners, reported they were battered              and the deficiencies of the newly completed prison through her lawyer Sebahat Gençtarih.

Sebahat said Yüksel told her particularly young women were battered by soldiers and prison officers and there are black-and blue marks on the bodies of women due to the battery.

Sebahat reported the following information: “The prisoners are forcibly counted in the wards. The prisoners are forcibly taken out to be counted. After the older political prisoners were transferred to the prison, the young prisoners were battered by soldiers and prison officers. Now, there is no water and electricity in the prison. The prisoners say they have drunk well water for three days.”
