Bedia Özgökçe: Ruling power is afraid of resisting Kurdish women

VAN – HDP Van MP Bedia Özgökçe Ertan evaluated the arrest of TJA activists and revocation of HDP women MPs parliamentary membership and indicated that the political power is afraid of conscious and resisting Kurdish women and underlined that they will continue their struggle despite the attacks.

Pressure and annihilation policies against co-management system of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) continue by the ruling power. While the parliamentary membership of the HDP Co-chair and Van MP Figen Yüksekdağ and then HDP Diyarbakır MP Nursel Aydoğan were revoked, the demand of the revocation of HDP Van MP Tuğba Hezer’s parliamentary seat has been sent to the General Assembly of the Parliament. Many politician women have been arrested during political genocide operation launched against the activists of the Free Women’s Movement (TJA).

HDP Van MP Bedia Özgökçe Ertan evaluated the recently ruling power’s policies against women and she emphasized that these attacks are conscious policies. Bedia said, “The presence of so many women in our party is a model in the world, not in Turkey. The parliamentary immunity was lifted by joining forces. Immediately after, our MPs elected by many votes were arrested. The parliamentary membership of our co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ was revoked and her party membership was also revoked. Almost immediately, the parliamentary membership of the HDP Diyarbakır MP Nursel Aydoğan was revoked. Not only in the parliament, but also in the municipalities, many of our co-mayors were also arrested. We have subjected to political genocide operations since general election on November 1. Kurdish women movement worked hard for years for women’s struggle and has brought it to at some stage. It is a structure taken as a model. It is a revolutionist movement based on its own system and order, manner of rule and social transformation, and it is growing day by day.

“Ms. Figen Yüksekdağ is a Turk and left socialist woman. Lynch campaigns against her, her arrest and the revocation of her parliamentary membership is an attack to isolate the HDP. Nothing is a coincidence. This is a political decision. The political power is afraid of resisting women and announces them as “terrorist”. Figen, Sabahat, Gültan, Aysel, Selma, Gülser, Çağlar and Besime are strong women and all of them have the leading role and mission in politics. No political party leader is in prison for their thoughts in the world. The people are in prison for their thoughts and politics only in Turkey. The women will never take steps back from their struggle despite the arrests, torture and maltreatment.”
