Men kill 26 women and 5 children in March

ANKARA – In Turkey, men killed 26 women, inflicted violence on 21 women and sexually abused 52 children in March. Five children were killed, two of them killed by state forces, in March 2017.

The sexist policies of the AKP government are increasing by legitimizing male violence against women and children, sexual assault and harassment. According to the reports Şûjin compiled from local and national newspapers, news sites and agencies, men killed 26 women, inflicted violence on 21 women in March 2017. 73% of women were killed by the men they knew, 12% of women were killed by the men they didn’t know. 15% of women indeterminately died. 22 women were subjected to sexual harassment, three of them sexually harassed by state forces.

In March, 10 women died accidentally. Seven of these women died in an accident while going to Ankara from Bursa to celebrate March 8, International Women’s Day.

52 children sexually abused!

Men sexually abused 52 children in March. While 17 children lost their lives for various reasons, three children were killed by the men they knew. Two children were killed by state forces in March.

6000 women killed in 14 years

AKP’s war politics that fuel the conflict are also putting women’s lives at great risk. The state authorities’ sexist discourses that legitimize violence find the women in the streets, at home, at work and everywhere. The women have faced harassment, sexual assault and violence in everywhere. More than 6000 women were killed in the AKP government’s 14- year rule.
