Call on international women’s organizations: A stronger unity is needed

NEWS CENTER- While reactions to the attacks on Rojava and Shengal continue, the YPJ Spokesperson Nesrin Abdullah, called on all international women’s organizations and said, “The solidarity and support that the women’s organizations in the world put forth in the process of Kobanê are needed today more. The identity of the women’s freedom struggle, the YPJ should be stood up for.”

The reactions to airstrike launched by the Turkish Armed Forces on Rojava and Shengal are increasing day by day. Evaluating the attacks, Nesrin Abdullah, Spokesperson of the YPJ, said that the AKP, which received a “No” response from the Kurds in the referendum held in Turkey, entered in political, social and military turmoil and the AKP made this situation as the reason for the attack. Nesrin said, “The turkish state has been attacking since the beginning of the revolution in Rojava. During the 6 years of Turkish state attacks, dozens of innocent people, including children, women and young people, fell martyrs. The attacks on Karachok, Shengal and North were also against all Kurdish people. The Kurdish nation was targeted.”

‘A defense system against warplanes should be set up’

Nesrin criticized the coalition forces’ statements saying “we were informed too late” by the Turkish state before the attack, saying that “this created a very serious contradiction” and emphasized that they didn’t accept the coalition forces’ statements. Noting that they expect concrete steps by the coalition forces not their statements in order to prevent the continuation of possible attacks on Rojava, Nesrin said, “No-fly zone should be declared and a defense system against warplanes should be set up.”

Call on international women’s organizations

Pointing out the attacks on Shengal, Nesrin said, “They attacked the Kurds on the anniversary of Armenian Genocide. That time the Ottoman Empire attacked and now the AKP attacks. Those who attack Shengal can attack Hewlêr and Sulaimaniya tomorrow. Docens of our youth fell martyrs in order to defend our Êzidî people. Our people in the south should rise. The solidarity and support that the women’s organizations in the world put forth in the process of Kobanê are needed today more. The identity of the women’s freedom struggle, the YPJ should be stood up for.”
