NEWS CENTER- Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP Feleknas Uca, who has been awarded Clara Zetkin Honorary Woman Prize dedicated the prize to resisting women and said, “We will walk this way together.”
Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP Feleknas Uca has received the 7th Clara Zetkin Honorary Woman Prize in Berlin, Germany. Feleknas, who made a speech on the prize-giving ceremony, said the prize means more struggle for women in Turkey, Rojava and Shengal fighting against Daesh. Feleknas said;
“First of all, I want to thank you very much. I am deeply touched, not only for being granted to Clara Zetkin 2017 Prize but also for your solidarity, support and strength that you have given to us in our hard times. Clara Zetkin is a model for us with her struggle for workers, freedom and human rights. Being granted to this prize shows that I should continue to walk the path of Clara Zetkin. It shows that I should do more for human rights, women’s rights, gender equality, the struggle of the oppressed people, the Kurdish people and the women fighting against Daesh in Shengal and Rojava. It shows that we should continue to walk this way for the women subjected torture in the prisons and lay down their lives for freedom struggle. We will walk this way together. We have a long way. They will put stones on our way but we will remove these barriers. We will walk this way together for our peoples, democracy and women’s rights.
I have been reported that March 8 event has been banned by Diyarbakır Governorate. The events have been banned not only in Diyarbakır but also in many cities. These bans show us how the State of the Republic of Turkey is afraid of women and their power to change the world. It wasn’t clear that I could be here with you today, because I wasn’t sure if I could leave the county.
I just want to say that we have solidarity and support with imprisoned HDP female MPs, dismissed or imprisoned 35 co-mayors and thousands of our members, who are put into prisons for demanding freedom and democracy. I am receiving this prize for my Co-Chair Figen Yüksekdağ, who has been imprisoned and her parliamentary membership has been revoked, for our co-mayors, my female friends of our party, for Sakine Cansız, Seve Demir, Kurdish women fighting against Daesh in Shengal and Rojava. I want to thank you very much.”
