People in South welcome spring with Newroz torches

NEWS CENTER- People in Hewler, cities of Shengal and Qandil Mountain of the Federal South Kurdistan gathered in Newroz celebrations. The people said, “The people living in these lands have faced many oppressions and dictators throughout history. While all of them vanished off the face of the earth, the people and their values are permanent,” in the celebrations with torches.

HEWLER

Young people and women living in the Çoman district of Hewlêr lighted Newroz fire on the mountain of the Balekayeti district to celebrate Newroz. Press Responsible of Çoman Geştê, Huner Kake Ahmed said, “All this year’s events will be held in recreation areas. The purpose is to get know more about the nature and see the recreation areas. The young people in the district went to high places by lighting about 100 torched and they lighted the Newroz fire.”

QANDİL

Like every year, thousands are welcoming 2017 Newroz in Qandil with the motto, “We will definitely win”. The people, who began to go to Qandil since yesterday, set up tents around the area where Newroz would be celebrated and lighted fire. The people often shouted the slogans, “Long live Apo” and “Long live Newroz”. The poster of the PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan has been hung in the celebration area. After one minute’s silence for all those who lost their lives in the struggle for democracy and peace, speeches were made. In the speeches, it is stated that, “The people living in these lands have faced many oppressions and dictators throughout history. While all of them vanished off the face of the earth, the people and their values are permanent.”

SHENGAL

Newroz has been celebrated in Shengal and the villages around with great enthusiasm. Êzidî lighted the Newroz fire in Serdeşt Camp on Shengal Mountain and danced around the fire. The young people celebrated Newroz by lighting torches and organizing a march. Meanwhile, Xanesor people set up tents near the KDP situations and danced around the Newroz fire until morning. YBŞ-YJŞ fighters lighted fire and celebrated Newroz.
