DİYARBAKIR – People have begun to go to Newroz area in Diyarbakır to celebrate 2017 Newroz organized with the motto, “We will definitely win”. Despite the blocking attempts of the police, the people are flocking to the area by shouting slogans.
This year’s Newroz is organized with the motto, “We will definitely win” and preparations for the Newroz were began days ago. Five different gates were built for Newroz organized by the DTK, HDP, DBP and TJA and two thousand people are responsible for the security. 20 tons of firewood were brought to Newroz area.
Delegations and activists from many countries come for Newroz
Early morning, the people began to go to Newroz Park to celebrate Newroz. Totally 367 domestic and foreign journalists will cover the Newroz celebration. Many activists from Basque, Catalonia, Italy, Norway, France, Scotland, Switzerland, Colombia and Germany came to Diyarbakır for Newroz.
Police have built barricade in five gates since last night and they didn’t stopped the people from entering the area. Hundreds of journalists are waiting for entering the area.
People dancing accompanied with the zurna and davul
The people are waiting for entering the area with great enthusiasm. The people protested the obstacles by applauding and whistling. The people dancing accompanied with the zurna and davul are shouting slogans, “Long live Apo”, “PKK is the people, the people are here”, “No life without the Leader”.
Women come to Newroz with their colors
Women going to Newroz area wear their traditional dresses in the colors of yellow, red and green. Some women wear skirts reading “No”. The women have scarf, shawl and accessories in the colors of yellow, red and green; however, the police state that they will not allow the women wearing the skirts in the colors of yellow, red and green to enter the area.
One person shot in the entrance to the Newroz area
One person running to Newroz area was shot by police. The unidentified person was taken to hospital.
Appointed trustee stops the buses
According to reports received, Cumali Atilla, the trustee appointed to Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, didn’t allow the municipal buses to go to Newroz Park. The people are going to the area by their cars or minibuses.
