ANKARA – In the first month of 2017, men killed 26 women and used violence against 21 women and sexually abused eight children.
The war policies of the AKP government increase the violence, sexual abuse and harassment against women and children. While the state officials’ discourses that legitimates the violence cause the women to be killed, their gendered discourses also affect women’s lives in the streets, at home, at workplaces. According to our review of reports from local and international newspapers, news websites and agencies, in the first month of 2017, men killed 26 women and used violence against 21 women and sexually abused eight children.
69% of the women were killed by the men they knew, about 20% of death caused by state forces.
21 women subjected to male violence
21 women were subjected to male violence in the first month of 2017; three female deputies were subjected to violence in the parliament by female deputies during Constitutional Amendment Proposal talks. %57 of these women was subjected to sexual violence and 43% of them were subjected to physical violence.
In the first month of 2017, eight children sexually abused by the people around them and eight children lost their lives.
