KOBANÊ – YPJ fighters, who greet the third anniversary of Kobanê’s victory, said for 134-day Kobanê resistance that, “We didn’t have heavy weapons but we had a great resistance”

On January 26, 2015, after 134-day resistance, fighters liberated Kobanê where was attacked by Daesh gangs. While the historic Kobanê resistance has influenced whole world, flags of success are waving in the sky of Kobanê. The YPJ fighters, who had participated in the operation to liberate Kobanê, told 134-day Kobanê resistance.

‘We fought against the enemy with a legendary resistance’

YPJ fighter Asmin Avesta, who had participated in the operation to liberate Kobanê, greeted the third anniversary of Kobanê’s victory and said, “Our aim and will became our success power. As a YPJ fighter, I took part in Kobanê resistance. Kurdish women destroyed the plans of enemy with the YPJ organization. The war in Kobanê raised consciousness of Rojava women. The enemy wanted to smother the organization of Rojava women by splitting Rojava Kurdistan. Many female friends, in the person of Heval Arîn, Zehra, Rêvana and Gûlan, destroyed their plans by making themselves shields against the enemy. In Kobanê, the soul of Zilan and other women did not bow to the sovereign powers and is reborn. I and my friends gave our word that we would never allow our enemy entering our land at the cost of our lives and we kept our word. Our resistance caused thousands of women to join the ranks of the YPJ. As YPJ women, we have destroyed the perception of “Women cannot do”. They wanted to massacre us like they did to Shengal women. But Kurdish women fought against the enemy with a legendary resistance.”

‘Gangs members were afraid of women’

Newroz Agiri, from YPJ fighers, reminded that Kobanê was liberated under the leadership of Arîn and Rêvan and said that, “The attacks on Kobanê were very heavy. The enemy attacked us by using their tanks and heavy weapons. Daesh gangs were very afraid of us, women. Today, the operation to liberate Raqqa is ongoing under the leadership of the YPJ. The women led in every area of Rojava Kurdistan. The YPJ took its part in the liberation of Kobanê. We didn’t have heavy weapons but we had a great resistance. I am appealing to all young women; Join the YPJ ranks and lead the Middle East.”

One of commanders of the YPJ Sorxwin Rojhilat said, “Daesh gangs abducted and sold Kurdish Êzidî women and that raised my anger. The enemy attacked us by using all kind of war techniques. We, as YPG and YPJ, fought with our will. Women friends did not leave the fronts in any way. Daesh gangs attacked us from all sides but we didn’t step back. The women led the Kurds and the people in the Middle East.”

Sorxwin pointed out the operation “Wrath of the Euphrates” and said, “We take revenge of women in Kobanê, Shengal and all women while fighting against Daesh. We will continue to fight until we annihilate all Daesh members. No one believed that the life would be rebuilt here. When I walked in the streets of Kobanê and looked at the empty houses, I believed that these houses would be filled with people again and saw the children playing in the streets again. Now this has happened. The people returned to the city and rebuilt it. As YPG and YPJ, we always fight for a new life. As a YPJ fighter, I am appealing to all women in the Middle East; Protect your country agains Daesh by joining the YPJ for a free life.”

‘We will liberate Raqqa’

Another YPJ fighter Penaber Leman stated that the Kurdish women protected their history in Kobanê and led the freedom of the society. Penaber said that Rêvan and Arîn were examples of that and continued as follows; “As YPG anf YPJ, we follow in their footsteps. We liberated Miştenur just after the liberation of Kobanê. The whole world was waiting for us. Liberating Kobanê was like a dream. Everyone, particularly sovereign powers, had said Kobanê and Miştenur would be lost. The plans of Daesh gangs and Erdoğan were destroyed in Kobanê. I hope that this year we will celebrate the liberation of Kobanê by liberating Raqqa.”
