MARDİN – Christmas, celebrated by the Armenian Orthodox on January 6, couldn’t be celebrated in Surp Kevok Church this year.
Armenian Christmas is celebrated on January 6, on the birth of Christ. In the Derik district of Mardin, where the Armenian population live in, Christmas is celebrated annually in the Surp (Saint) Kevok Church. However, this year just two Armenian families remain in the town and the door of the church couldn’t be opened on Christmas. Yurşalin Demirci stated that the church hadn’t been opened on Christmas.
