SHENGAL – While works begun for abducted women by Daesh under the operation continues, the Shengal Resistance Units (YBŞ) and Shengal Women Units (YJŞ) forces entered to 2017 by rescuing the captured women. The women, who don’t want their names to be published for security reasons, told of the atrocity of Daesh and asked the other captive women and children to be rescued.
On August 3, 2014, Daesh gangs attacked Shengal city of Federal Kurdistan Region and killed thousands of Êzidîs. They abducted thousands of women and sold them in slave markets. The YJA-STAR and HPG fighters went to Shengal against the atrocity practiced on Êzidîs and protected the people from gangs. Êzidî people, who faced a big massacre, formed the Shengal Resistance Units (YBŞ) and Shengal Women Units (YJŞ) with the strength they received from the fighters. The YJŞ and YBŞ fighters have made a vow to liberate Shengal center and villages and have promised to save the Êzidî people from the atrocity of Daesh gangs in particular hundreds of women taken captive. While works begun for abducted women by Daesh under the operation continues, the YBŞ and YJŞ forces entered to 2017 by rescuing the captive women. The names of women and where they were rescued haven’t been announced for security reasons.
A good news arrived in Shengal on January 3. Two women, a man and four children abducted from Siba Şex Xıdır and Tilbenat villages by gangs were rescued by the YJŞ and YBŞ. The women spoke to our gazette after being rescued. The women said Daesh gangs had taken young women to Mosul and sold them there. The women expressed that small girls were forced to marry old men and continued as follows; “the girls fell sick and they were constantly crying. Many young women tried to commit suicide.”
‘We witnessed the execution of many people’
“Gangs’ members took the children from their mothers in order to prevent the women to escape,” said the women and continued, “They knew we wouldn’t leave our children in the hands of those savages. We couldn’t go out. All women were forced to wear a black abaya. They forced Êzidîs to become a muslim. They made the Êzidîs eat inedible lettuce, broccoli and cabbage. We witnessed the execution of many people.”
‘We are grateful to the YJŞ and YBŞ’
The women noted that they were very happy to return their lands and said, “We are grateful to the YJŞ and YBŞ fighters. They lay down their lives for us and we will never forget that. We hope other captive women and children to be save.”
