KCDP: 328 women killed in 2016

NEWS CENTER- According to the report 2016 prepared by We Will Stop Women Murder Platform, 328 women were killed in one year, 50 percent of the women murder took place during State of Emergency.

We Will Stop Women Murder Platform (Kadın Cinayetlerini Durduracağız Platformu) prepared the report 2016 on the women murder and shared it with the public opinion. According to the report, femicide increased in 2016 compared to last years, 328 women were killed and 50 percent of the women murder took place during State of Emergency. In the report, it is underlined that the women achieved significant gains by means of their resistance.

In the report, it is stated that 45 percent of women were killed for wanting to make a decision about their own lives, to divorce and to end a dating relationship. The report says, “While the women were killed by their closest relatives, 45 percent of them had children. Violence against the women not protected by the state increased during the State of Emergency. While 20 percent of the killed women were young, and we witnessed that the girls under 15-year-old were killed by men during the State of Emergency.”

‘Most women killed in Istanbul’

According to the report, the most women were killed in Istanbul. 34 women were killed in Istanbul, 17 in Adana, 16 in Ankara and İzmir, 14 in Antalya and Antep, 11 in Kocaeli and Muğla and 10 in Manisa and Konya. The report also states that the women achieved significant gains in 2016 through their resistance; “Women’s gain is the withdrawn of the AKP’s ‘shame proposal’ which was tried to pass in one night in order to legitimize ‘early marriage and child abuse including rape’. First the draft had been withdrawn and then canceled due to the women’s resistance.”
