Journalist Derya Okatan on hunger strike for 12 days

ISTANBUL – Six journalists have been in custody for 12 days. Etkin News Agency (ETHA) Managing Editor Derya Okatan has been on a hunger strike since she was detained.

The closed Dicle News Agency (DİHA) News Director Ömer Çelik, DİHA reporter Metin Yoksu,  former Diken Editor Tunca Öğreten, Birgün daily worker Mahir Kanat, Etkin News Agency (ETHA) Managing Editor Derya Okatan, Yolculuk Newspaper Editor in Chief Eray Saygın were taken into custody on December 25 and they have been held in Organized Crime Control Branch of Police Headquarters. There is a confidentiality order on the file of the journalists and their lawyers could see them after five days in custody.

While the lawyers of the journalists, who were detained on charges of “being member of (illegal) organization”, couldn’t see their clients, Sabah daily published a news titled, “Redhack’s perception team”.
