DİYARBAKIR – Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Adana MP Meral Danış Beştaş, who was detained at her home after arrest warrant issued for her, has been imprisoned on charges of “being member of an [illegal] organization” by the court.
Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Adana MP Meral Danış Beştaş, who was detained again upon the objection by Public Prosecutor of Diyarbbakır, has been imprisoned.
Meral had been detained on January 27 withing the scope of the same investigation and then was released under judicial control. Yesterday an arrest warrant was issued for Meral by Public Prosecutor of Diyarbbakır. The Criminal Court of Peace assessed the prosecution’s objection and issued a arrest warrant for her.
Last night, Meral was taken into custody at her home and was imprisoned on charges of “being member of an [illegal] organization” by the court.
Meral, who was detained at her home said goodbye to HDP MPs Sibel Yiğitalp, Hüda Kaya, Feleknas Uca, Leyla Birlik and Ayşe Acar Başaran, who were with her. Meral said, “I am friend of Tahir Elçi (Chairman of Diyarbakır Bar Association, killed on November 28, 2015 in the Sur district of Diyarbakır). No one can scare me. We will see each other soon.”
