DİYARBAKIR – While the destruction continues in besieged neighborhoods of Diyarbakır’s central Sur district, TOKİ (the division for state housing) has sent a notification to the citizens to “leave their homes at the shortest time”.
The curfew, which was declared in Diyarbakır’s central Sur district on December 2, 2015, still continues in four neighborhoods. The destruction is carried out in Hasırlı, Cemal Yılmaz, Fatihpaşa and Savaş neighborhoods by using diggers and explosives. After the clashes lasted 103 days, ‘urgent expropriation was declared on March 25 and 82 per cent of the town has been expropriated. On the heels of this decision, the destruction that had already begun under the blockade accelerated even more.
Historic houses to be demolished
While four neighborhoods have been flattened, people ask themselves, “Is it the turn of other neighborhoods?” According to reports received, TOKİ (the division for state housing) has sent a notification to the citizens saying, “Your houses are government property and leave your houses immediately”. The historic houses are also among these houses.
