NEWS CENTER- Etkin News Agency (ETHA) issued a statement for its Managing Editor Derya Okatan, who was detained yesterday and said, “She should be released immediately.”
Etkin News Agency (ETHA) issued a statement for its Managing Editor Derya Okatan, who was detained yesterday and said, “She was detained for covering the President Tayyip Erdoğan’s son in law and Minister of Energy Berat Albayrak’s leaked e-mails”
The statement states that Derya was taken into custody from the home she was visiting in Ankara after a funeral without giving any information on why she was detained and today, her home in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, was raided in the morning.
The statement is as follows;
“In the same inquiry, DİHA (Dicle News Agency) News Director Ömer Çelik, DİHA reporter Metin Yoksu, former Diken editor Tunca Öğreten, Birgün worker Mahir Kanat and Yolculuk Newspaper Editor in Chief Eray Saygın have been detained. Berat Albayrak’s e-mails were one of the topics of discussion on the agenda for Turkey. And the truths that came out with the e-mails were pointing to the illegal activities of Minister of Energy Berat Albayrak. No inquiries have been launched on Albayrak yet. The journalists who covered the e-mails being identified as “Redhack’s perception team” is unacceptable. This investigation is another example of pressure against press freedom. The journalists, who seek the truth, cannot be silenced with threats of detention and arrest, ETHA Managing Editor Derya Okatan and other detained journalists should be released.”
